World of Warcraft Shadowlands Patch 9.1.5 has officially released

The latest patch for World of Warcraft is now available, and while it doesn't add anything new, it does bring some major changes to the various systems in the game's current expansion.

Patch 9.1.5 has officially released and is the first content update World of Warcraft: Shadowlands has seen for almost 5 months. With such a gap, the full patch note list is expectedly huge and, although it’s considered a minor content update, there’s a lot of new content and changes to cover, including a huge overhaul to the Covenant system.

The patch may not add new content, but it does repurpose some older fan-favorites. Dungeons from the game's Legion expansion will now be featured in the game's rotating Timewalking event and will be playable on Mythic+ difficulty. The Mage Tower, a popular piece of content from Legion which offered unique challenges and unique rewards, is also returning for the duration of the Legion Timewalking event.

Patch 9.1.5 is bringing several gameplay updates, as well as cosmetic changes to a few of the game’s races. Players should notice an immediate change in the way WoW feels. The game’s development team has made a wide-sweeping effort to improve the game’s systems through quality-of-life changes.

In the wake of multiple sexual harassment and discrimination lawsuits, the WoW team has made it a point to update older parts of the game that may not have aged particularly well as part of patch 9.1.5, whether it's potentially problematic NPC dialogue from past expansions or suggestive achievement names. WoW game director Ion Hazzikostas recently said in an interview that those changes are part of a ground-up effort by the development team to ensure Azeroth is a welcoming and inclusive place in 2021 and beyond.

In this guide, we’ll detail the biggest additions and changes to World of Warcraft: Shadowlands in Patch 9.1.5:
  •       Class Balance Changes – Among the numerous changes is a shift in how area-of-effect (AOE) damage works. Instead of the previous hard cap of five targets, AOE abilities can now affect more, but with diminishing damage beyond the fifth.
  •         New Race Customizations – As part of the continued effort to allow players to visually express themselves, new customizations are here for Highmountain Tauren, Lightforged Draenei, Nightborne, and Void Elves.
  •         Covenant Changes – Players are now able to freely swap covenants with no cooldown or penalty, and bring with them everything they've earned from their previous covenant activity.
  •         Legion Timewalking – Six Legion dungeons enter the Timewalking rotation, in both heroic mode and in Mythic+ for its two-week duration. In addition, the Mage Tower will make a return with new color variants of the Mythic Tier 20 gear as a reward!
  •         Korthia Updates – Players will see a boost in efficiency with new travel points, increased relic and fragment drops, and remote anima deposit.
  •         Legacy Content Updates – those who enjoy farming old content for mount drops and gear will find some balance updates for solo gameplay, including raid bosses, Island Expeditions, Warfronts and more.
